Tenebrae, A Service of Darkness

This night marks the beginning of the most solemn part of the painful process to the cross with our Lord and master. The purpose is to recreate the betrayal, abandonment, arrest, conviction and agony of the events leading to the cross. Candles are extinguished one by one as scripture readings are shared to tell this story to remember the depth of Christ’s suffering. When the last candle is extinguished, the Christ candle, we are left in total darkness to remember His death on the cross, His death to save us.
