Four nights each June
Vacation Bible School
Four evenings of music, crafts, science and games for Pre-K through 5th grade.
For four nights each June the building is transformed top to bottom around a single theme, and sixty to seventy children a night come through it — for worship and music, crafts, science experiments, themed meals and a great deal of noise.
What a Night Looks Like
Each evening opens with worship and music in the sanctuary, then splits into rotations: crafts, hands-on science, games, and a Bible story told in a way that a five-year-old and a fifth-grader both stay with. Supper is themed to match. In between, children hunt for "God Sightings" — small, everyday evidence that God is at work — and report back what they found.
The week closes with Family Night, when parents and brothers and sisters come to see what the children have been doing all week.
SCUBA: Diving Into Friendship With God
Our most recent VBS ran June 23–26 for Pre-K through 5th grade, on the theme SCUBA: Diving Into Friendship With God. Across the week children explored what it means that God is a friend who is real, who loves them, who can be trusted, and who is a friend for everyone. There were under-the-sea meals, water games, and a walk-through of the belly of the whale.
Getting Ready
Decorating starts weeks ahead — every Monday and Tuesday through the week before, turning the church into a deep blue sea — and everyone is invited to help. There is a project or a craft for anyone who wants one, whatever your skill level.
Helping Out
VBS runs on volunteers: crafts and art, hands-on science, games, storytelling, music, kitchen, registration, and handing out flyers around town. If you would like to take a piece of it, or you have somewhere a stack of flyers could go, contact the church office and we will put you to work.
