After His resurrection, Jesus spent time teaching and encouraging His disciples. They were eager for answers and wanted to know if this was finally the moment when everything would be restored and made right. But instead of giving them a timeline, Jesus gave them a mission: wait for the promised Holy Spirit and be His witnesses to the world.
It is often easier to move ahead than to wait. Waiting can feel uncertain and uncomfortable, especially when we want clarity about the future. Yet in this passage, the disciples teach us something important—waiting on God is never wasted time.
As Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples stood watching, probably filled with awe, confusion, and wonder. The angels gently reminded them that there was work still to do. So they returned to Jerusalem and did exactly what Jesus instructed: they gathered together in prayer and unity.
What stands out is that they did not scatter in fear or frustration. They stayed faithful in the waiting. They prayed together. They encouraged one another. They prepared their hearts for what God would do next.
Many seasons of life feel like "in-between" moments. We pray for direction, healing, restoration, or answers, but God does not always move according to our timetable. In those moments, Acts 1 reminds us to remain faithful, united, and prayerful. God is often preparing us while we are waiting.
The same power Jesus promised to the disciples is the power available to believers today through the Holy Spirit. God has not called us to simply stand looking upward; He calls us to live with purpose, share His love, and trust His timing.
Dear Lord, help us to trust You in seasons of waiting. Teach us to remain faithful, prayerful, and united as we seek Your direction. Fill us with the power of Your Holy Spirit so we may boldly live and share the hope of Christ each and every day. In Jesus name, Amen.
Love and Blessings, Karen
