Listen to Him: A Lenten Reflection
February 27, 2026
On the Second Sunday of Lent, we often reflect on the Transfiguration in the Gospel of Luke, 9:28-36. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up the mountain to pray. There, His appearance changes, His glory is revealed, and the disciples hear the voice of God: "This is my Son...Listen to Him."
Lent is a season of climbing mountains. Not literal ones, but spiritual ones...times of prayer, surrender, and honest reflection. Like the disciples, we may feel both awe and uncertainty as God reveals more of who Christ truly is. We may even want to "stay on the mountain," holding on to moments when faith feels clear and strong.
But the voice from heaven gives simple direction: Listen to Him.
In the Book of Genesis 12, God calls Abraham to leave what is familiar and walk by faith. Abraham listens...and follows. The disciples will soon have to do the same as Jesus turns toward Jerusalem and the cross.
Listening to Christ during Lent may mean laying down distractions, forgiving someone, trusting God in uncertainty, or stepping forward in obedience when the path isn't fully clear.
The glory of the mountain reminds us who Jesus is. The journey down the mountain reminds us where He is going. And the cross reminds us how deeply we are loved.
Dear Heavenly Father, This week help us to quiet our hearts, climb a little higher in prayer, and simply "Listen to Him." In Jesus Name, Amen
Love and Blessings to you all, Karen
