Notes from Our Music Director: Texas Choir Camp

July 24, 2026

Our Music Director Leona Adams shares highlights from a week at Texas Choir Camp — new skills for worship, a variety-show handbell solo, and worship led by Ken Medena.

Last week I went to Texas Choir Camp in Palestine at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center. The theme was Lost In Wonder, Love, and Praise.

I enjoyed my time there immensely, and I learned some skills that I can apply to the music ministry here at Kaufman FUMC: directing skills, rehearsal skills, skills for leading children, and skills involving bells in worship. I learned how to involve movement in worship. I learned many songs. I also learned from other directors and their experiences.

One of the highlights of the week was worship. Ken Medena, one of the top 10 worship leaders in the world, led us in vibrant and reflective worship. Ken is also blind. He is a prolific composer, and I've directed many of his pieces. It was amazing to just be revitalized in God's presence.

In the variety show I played a handbell solo of "I Am Thine, O Lord."

Thank you to all that made it possible for me to attend.
