“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
Summer is a season many of us eagerly anticipate. We pack our suitcases, map out our routes, and look forward to spending time with family, exploring new places, or simply enjoying a slower pace. Vacations refresh our bodies and minds, but they can also become opportunities to refresh our spirits.
The wonderful truth is that God never takes a vacation from us. Whether we're driving across Texas, relaxing on a beach, hiking in the mountains, or visiting family, His presence goes with us. We don't leave Him behind when we leave home.
As we travel, we can make room for God in simple ways. Begin each day with a short prayer of thanksgiving. Read a few verses of Scripture over breakfast. Notice the beauty of God's creation in a sunrise, a mountain view, or the laughter of children. Worship with a local congregation if you're away on a Sunday, or spend time praising God wherever you are.
Vacations also remind us of God's gift of rest. From the very beginning, God established a rhythm of work and rest. Jesus Himself often withdrew to quiet places to pray and renew His spirit. Taking time to rest is not laziness…it is part of God's design for healthy living.
As you enjoy this summer season, travel safely, make wonderful memories, and remember that every journey is an opportunity to walk a little closer with the One who is always by your side. Wherever your travels lead, may you experience God's protection, His peace, and His joy.
Gracious God, thank You for the gift of summer and the opportunity to rest and enjoy the world You have created. Watch over all who travel. Keep us safe on every road, in every airport, and in every destination. Help us to recognize Your presence wherever we go and to carry Your love with us in all we do. Refresh our hearts as well as our bodies, and bring us home with grateful spirits and renewed faith. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Love and blessings,
Karen
